ROLAND GARROS
Roger thundered past qualifier Dudi Sela 6-1, 6-4, 6-0 today to take his place in the second round of the French Open.
Seeking the only grand slam title to have eluded him, he left his Israeli foe dazed with a succession of powerful winners on the Roland Garros centre court in an 89-minute masterclass. "I'm happy with that win, I feel I have prepared well for this event".
Roger showed a very offensive game and often came up to the net under the eyes of Tony Roche – who won the tournament in 1966.
Having lost in the third round last year, Roger will face Spain's Nicolas Almagro in the next round. Until now Roger has never progressed beyond the quarter-finals in the French capital.
