Domenico Criscito: “I decided to try my luck, and scored”
The author of Zenit`s second goal vs. Mordovia noted that he scored the way he did for the first time ever, and said he`s happy about the upcoming winter.
— It was a really difficult match, and we played in really difficult conditions, in the wind, and rain. But other than the shot off the crossbar in the first half, we didn`t let Mordovia do anything. Overall we played well and won.
— Your goal was quite unusual. Have you scored like that before?
— Of course it`s not common for me to score goals like that, but I decided to try my luck. I saw that the keeper was out of his box, and I decided to try and chip him. That`s the first time I`ve scored like that. I never even got the chance to try and score like that before.
— You aren`t embarrassed by the fact that Mordovia, which is struggling in the league this year, played so confidently against Zenit, which will play next week in the Champions League?
— No. I think we deserve to be in the Champions League, since we do very well each year in the Russian League. Furthermore, we have really strong players. Of course Mordovia has good players too, but not at the same level as in Zenit. But overall Mordovia is not a bad team, and I think they`ll have a good season.
— How do you feel? Your nose doesn`t hurt anymore?
— Everything`s fine now. I trained with the national team just three days after my operation, and now a month has gone by, so there are no problems.
— Did you keep your mask as a souvenir?
— Ya, I kept it as a souvenir. I should be wearing it for matches, but I stopped, because I feel more free without it.
— You`ve got your second winter in Russia coming up. Is this one going to be easier than the first?
— The winter wasn`t so hard last year, because if I remember right it only started snowing at the end of November. No it`s totally different. It`s really great for me to see the city in white snow each morning. As for the cold, I don`t feel it during the match because we`re running around so much.
